If you’re turning the wedding into a little Colorado weekend getaway, here are a few of our favorite nearby spots. We picked options that are easy to enjoy before or after our celebration.
One of our favorite nearby spots for a scenic Colorado outing, the West Trailhead offers beautiful foothills views, peaceful trails, and an easy way to get a little mountain time into the weekend.
If this is your first time in Colorado, Red Rocks is the easiest and probably most iconic spot to enjoy. Even without a concert, it is worth visiting for the dramatic rock formations, scenic trails, and amphitheatre views. Catch the sun rising above the Denver cityscape if you’re an early riser or enjoy a day hike on one of the many trails. Don’t forget sunscreen and water, as the elevation can quickly humble the best of us.
For guests who want something more surreal than scenic, Meow Wolf is our favorite pick. The Denver installation is an immersive art experience, and most visitors spend around two to three hours exploring it. This is the best option on the list for people who want air-conditioning, color, and creatively controlled chaos. There’s a puzzle hidden throughout the experience that you can access by snagging a Q-card upon entering, though fair warning, Alex and Sam spent 6 hours on their first visit trying to solve the puzzle and still have not completed it!
Dinosaurs, fossils, space, and interactive exhibits all in one place! A very kid-friendly spot that is sure to have something exciting for you to see. The nearby City Park is a lovely walk to pair this with, especially if you stop by Mama Jo’s for a BBQ picnic.
A fun pick for anyone who loves puzzles and teamwork. It’s also the spot where we had our first date! Escapology offers private, immersive one-hour escape games for groups looking for something a little more interactive in Denver. Stop two on this escapade (and our first date) should be WoodsBoss Brewing Company, owned by the intrepid adventurer Jordan Fink. If you see him, ask about his Everest adventure and starting the first brewery in Nepal.
Owned by our very good friends Ben and Jodi, Mama Jo’s is one of our favorite local spots for incredible biscuits, chicken, and Carolina-style barbecue. Pairs nicely with visiting the nearby City Park for a shaded stroll.
The best high-end cocktail bar in Denver, Death & Co is a great choice for guests looking for an elevated night out with beautifully crafted drinks, an intimate atmosphere, and a menu that makes the whole evening feel a little special. It’s located inside The Ramble Hotel in RiNo.
For anyone sticking around through Sunday, City Park Jazz is hosting a free outdoor concert on June 28 from 6:00–8:00 PM featuring Shane Endsley and the Denver Municipal Band. It’s a great low-key way to wrap up the weekend with live music in the park.
